Iwo Jima Memorial

Since the weather was so tremendous here today (78 and sunny!), I took a day off from projects and cleaning and shopping and went over to the Iwo Jima Memorial for an outing. The Memorial - also known as the Marine Corps Memorial - is in Arlington, not far from my home.

It's a great place to bring a blanket and just sit and appreciate the view and since there are several acres of rolling and plush lawns it's a great place to bring dogs for a stroll - and Gabbie loves it there. And today there was a bridal party with the groom and groomsmen all in Marine Corps dress blue uniforms having their pictures taken. That was cool to see.

I took this picture from south side of the memorial from atop a hillside grove. This picture only shows a small part of the lawns at the memorial.

And here is more of a close up shot. In the background you can see the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the Capitol Building. Now I know where to go to see the fireworks on July 4th!In the picture below you get an idea of how big the memorial is: the people standing below it look tiny in comparison! By the way, if you double-click on any of these pictures they enlarge and you can see them better.

And here's another view.

All in all, it was a nice day - definitely worth blowing off anything related to home projects!
